The Top 6 Reasons Your Business Needs A Dynamic Email List
Do you have a business with a cute Instagram account or Facebook page? Do you struggle keeping up with social media to market your products, services, and yourself? An email list is the answer to your problems.
Now you may be saying “I already have an email newsletter for people to sign up at the bottom of my website and nothing has come of it.”
Well my super, hard working, jazzy entrepreneur, you need to nurture that email list like it’s a brand new plant baby. And yes, it will be easier than any plant you’ve ever had, so no need to have a green thumb to have a thriving and growing email list. Read further to find out just how simple getting started is and boost your sales, like, yesterday.
Reason #1: Treat Your Time Like Your Money
Have you ever heard the phrase “Work smarter, not harder?” As an entrepreneur, I catch myself in the weeds of creating content, social listening that quickly turns into comparative scrolling on social media, and trying to SEO like a boss. The number one thing that is so easily forgotten is our time. Time is our money and it can feel like we are working so hard for every single dollar.
When you invest (a smaller amount than paid ads) into other forms of marketing aside from what you are currently doing, not only will you see a boost in physical sales, but in your time as well. And I don’t know about you, but my time is invaluable. Make your email list work for you and dedicate more time to the aspects of your business that matter.
Followers don’t always equal results. Ever notice that maybe many people “see” your posts but very few like it or engage in the comments? Social media is all about engagement. The beauty of your email subscribers is that they are already invested in you and your business. They signed up for the newsletter for Pete’s sake! That is the target audience you listen to and nurture to boost your sales. Social media is their ticket in the door and you will love the mental clarity you get back from being on Meta less.
Reason #2: Don’t Build Your Dreams on Rented Space
My favorite business guru, Jenna Kutcher, talks about this all of the time. 99% of consumers check their email everyday. What if that clever caption became a subject line? Chances are, you have already built a solid community in person or on social media. Don’t let all that good effort go to waste. Continue to engage with your community in their inboxes. Make them feel special because they are!
Small business is the cornerstone of community and when we build community, we thrive together. I truly believe that your audience wants you to thrive and succeed, but they also like less friction and want more accessible ways to support you. If you can’t get them into the store or to the market, get them online in their personal inboxes. Then watch the magic happen.
Reason #3: K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple, Sis. A successful email marketing strategy lies in creating trust with your audience and building genuine, long-lasting relationships with them- stuff you are already good at!
You do not need to be an expert marketer to build your email list and benefit from the results. How many emails and DMs are you already sending on a daily basis as a small business owner? Imagine if you could group all of the individual inquiries into one email and send it to all of those asking at the same time?
Already know the questions you’re going to get when you post a new offer? Anticipate your audience’s questions and concerns in an email and you will love the quietness of your DMs, however not in the crickets way, in the money making way.
Reason #4: Don’t Bury the Lead
Did you know I was today years old when I learned that the phrase is actually “don’t bury the lede?” In journalism, the lede refers to the introductory section of a news story that is intended to entice the reader to read the full story. I kept it intentionally spelled “lead” because I love nothing more than a good pun and truly, your sign up for your newsletter is your lead magnet and when it is at the verryy bottom of your site without a pop-up or freebie in sight, you are missing many of those in your target audience that will drive sales.
Before you panic about what you are giving away for free, breathe, and refer above to reason #3. Keep it simple. I do not want you to take more time or money to give away something that won’t help you financially, but we also want to build trust and expertise in our community. So think of an ebook with some tips or tricks for thrifting, shopping small, alternatives to supporting major corporations, book recommendations, plant care advice, your next hot drink recommendation, or how to visit your destination as the coolest local you know when you books a stay at your hotel.
Know the best pairings of wine and food? Share it in exchange for an email address. An expert on how to dress for your body type? Offer your audience a quiz to learn their body type and styles of clothing that will look good on them in exchange for an email.
Think low hanging fruit. Don’t give away the entire entree but just enough to satisfy a craving and keep them coming back for more (ie. opening more of your emails and buying from you).
Reason #5: You’re One Person and Don’t Have the Budget
As a solopreneur myself, I get this more than most. That is why it is my intention to always create free and quality content for you to implement in your business no matter the direction our journey together takes. Change happens in multitudes and if even reading this blog post helps you start or grow your email list today, I will celebrate your wins.
To launch my business, I took a leap earlier this year and invested in a group coaching program from another woman-owned business that I had been a close follower of for a while. It was a big investment for me and I am still on the payment plan. However, the value I got was unbelievable. My website is out there, I am already helping women all over the internet with their small businesses, and I get to spend a few days of my week focusing on things I love: problem solving for my community.
My coaches helped me accomplish steps I never ever would have been able to do successfully or as quickly without them. When I became frustrated with tech hangups or red tape, they helped me solve it in real time. I cannot tell you what having someone there with you to problem solve does to boost your personal motivation. It was such a relief.
So, can you start and grow your email list from scratch alone? Of course! Look how far you have come already. You have a full on business out there. But do you want to take the precious time you don’t have and make mistakes along the way that could be remediated quickly or avoided altogether? Let’s go on the journey together. I may not have all of the answers but my biggest gift is my resourcefulness and I have the time to dedicate to this aspect of your business so you can continue being awesome for your audience. If time is money, than I guarantee you will get your time back and the money you invest will grow exponentially with the amount of traffic you gain from the email inbox.
I Want A Better Email List- What Now?
Create your freebie. Create a couple and see which one your current audience responds to more. Then, create a pop up on your website that offers that freebie (ie. lead magnet) in exchange for an email address. Start building your list from there. It can be extremely beneficial to look into a CRM (customer relationship management) service to help segment your list by various audience characteristics and analytics based off of purchasing behaviors to increase your sales. From there, you can personalize, automate, and voila! You are nurturing your audience in ways that are unique to them.
